Welcome to Ancient Treasures! Each piece of our handcrafted petrified wood jewelry is fashioned out of fragments of the world’s oldest fossilized woods. These are pre-historic gems - ancient treasures - left behind by time and nature, and polished to gemstone quality.

ABOUT US

Ancient Treasures is owned and operated by Chuck and Joyce Nicholson of Cape Breton Island (Nova Scotia, Canada). Chuck Nicholson is a Mineral Technologist by profession and a retired Instructor of Geology at Cape Breton University, while Joyce has owned and operated a number of small businesses throughout the metro area.

It was a particular passion for prospecting that led to the discovery of an outstanding Petrified Wood deposit that they believe to be among the oldest in the world.

They began handcrafting finely polished chunks of fossilized wood into one-of-a-kind pieces. In 2001, Ancient Treasures was formed and they began selling unique, petrified wood jewelry exclusively to cruise ship passengers from across the globe at downtown Sydney's Marine Terminal. This cottage industry has grown enormously since then to include craft fairs across the Maritimes and internet sales to clients in Canada, the United States, Europe and Hong Kong.
